This project was conducted by Prof. Dr. John-Stewart Gordon (University of Cologne & Vytautas Magnus University), Dr.  Johann-Christian Põder (University of Copenhagen & University of Greifswald) and Prof. Dr. Holger Burckhart (University of Siegen) from 2012 to 2015.

The purpose of this trans- and interdisciplinary research project is to address the crucial question of the function human rights have or should have in relation to disability within the context of global bioethics and to investigate and critically evaluate this aspect. In a view of the plurality of cultures and different concepts of morality, the concept of human rights seems to offer a particularly promising approach when it comes to solving complex bioethical questions.
